Forbes List of top Female Earners in Hollywood 2010
Forbes has released its list of this year’s top female earners in Hollywood and much of the list will come as no surprise. What may surprise readers is the quantity of the earnings themselves. While the list boasts impressive female artists and entertainers, there is much to be inferred by analysis of the earnings of the top 10 women, when compared to the male equivalent list. There is almost a 30% difference in total salaries with men considerably ahead in earning power.
Name: Oprah
Earnings: $315 million
Famous for: Oprah Winfrey is the host of her eponymous talk show, the top rated talk show in history. She has also made use of the money in great philanthropic activities which lead to her being named the greatest black philanthropist in American history. In addition to her talk show, she also has also published 5 books including one on weight loss. Her magazine O, the Oprah magazine, was named the most successful start-up in the industry.
Name: Beyonce
Earnings: $87 million
Famous for: An extremely successful RnB and Pop singer, Beyonce Knowles is also a songwriter, actress and fashion designer. She originally found fame with trio Destiny’s Child before establishing herself and as a top solo artist. Some of her biggest hits have included Crazy in Love and Single Ladies
Name: Britney Spears
Earnings: $64 million
Famous for: While Britney Spears gained initial fame for songs such as Baby One More Time and Oops! I did it again; she is now most famous for the large amounts of celebrity gossip column inches that have been written about her and her erratic behaviour, although her latest album ‘Circus’ has generated the hit Womanizer.
Name: Lady Gaga
Earnings: $62 million
Famous for: The controversial singer has generated as much celebrity news pieces about her clothing and behaviour as her songs. Her best known singles have been Poker Face and bad Romance, which both went platinum.
Name: Madonna
Earnings: $58 million
Famous for: an enduring Pop legend Madonna is a singer as well as being an actress and entrepreneur who initially gained fame in 1982 and gain international superstardom with the hit Like a Virgin. Like a Virgin was certified Diamond and continues to influences music to this day
Name: Sandra Bullock
Earnings: $56 million
Famous for: Although an actress primarily famous for her romantic comedies, Sandra Bullock won the Best Actress Oscar for her role in Blind Side. She has also been featured in large numbers of celebrity newspublications due to her ex-husbands reported infidelities
Name: Ellen DeGeneres
Earnings: $55 million
Famous for: Ellen DeGeneres started her career as a stand-up comedian before establishing a successful sitcom named after her. She went on to find fame as a talk show host, and has recently announced she will be starting her own record label.
Name: Miley Cyrus
Earnings: $48 million
Famous for: The young star is most famous for her dual singing and acting career as Hannah Montana, as well as being the daughter of country star Billy Ray Cyrus
Name: Taylor Swift
Earnings: $45 million
Famous for: An award winning singer whose fame increased after an incident where Kanye West invaded the MTV VMA awards stage while she was accepting Best Female Video. The incident created celebrity news around the world and generated multiple apologies from West.
Name: Judge Judy Sheindlin
Earnings: $45 million
Famous for: A lawyer and author, Judy Sheindlin is most famous for her self-titled reality court drama show in which she adjudicates various legal matters.
