Is there anyway that I can repair broken cassette tapes?
I have some old cassette tapes, and on reviewing them a few days ago, I discovered that several of them had broken at the very end of the tape, leaving both ends inside of the casing. I was unable to access the ends to try to glue them back. Some of the cassetes contained important information. I sure would appreciate it if someone could help. There are screws on some, but the majority of them do not have any screws at all.

Where there are screws on the tape case, carefully unscrew the case and take the case apart. Repair the two ends of the tape (making sure the tape does not get twisted) with a tiny sliver of sticky tape, ensuring that the sticky tape does not overlap the sides of the magnetic tape. If some of the tape is mashed and twisted, cut it with a sharp knife and discard the ruined tape. Try to keep the tape straight when joining it (you can actually get a splicing table/frame it you want to do it properly.Place the magnetic tape back in it’s playing position so that it runs smoothly over the small brush again (if the brush part works loose make sure you know how to put it back – this is the part that gently pushes the tape onto the read/write heads). If you can do this without disturbing the reels with tape wound on them so much the better… REW and FFWD the tape to get it running straight, then copy it ASAP as the sticky tape is not a long-term fix.

If there are no screws, you can gently break open the tape box running a penknife carefully around the edge and forcing it open – Have an old case (WITH SCREWS but with old tape reels removed) standing by and transfer the whole tape on the reel onto the new casing before splicing the tape and closing the new casing back together with the repaired tape inside.
As you may have guessed, I have done this a few times
