Has anyone read books by Dorothea Benton Frank? if so…do you recommend them?
looking for new author
I’m from the South and love Southern authors. I liked her first 3 books a lot….Sullivan’s Island, Plantation and Isle of Palms were all great. Isle of Palms is probably my favorite, but I suggest if you read her, start with the first, Sullivan’s Island. Because honestly, those first two are great reads as well. Shem Creek was pretty good. I did not read Pawley’s Island and I didn’t like her newest, Full of Grace very much. She has a very interesting style of writing. I prefer first person and a lot of times, she will jump between different character points of view, so you have to kind of get used to that. But if you like stuff by Pat Conroy or Anne Rivers Siddons, you will likely like Dorothy’s stuff, too. She has a great sense of humor, very self-depracating, good stuff and there’s always a romance brewing. Her main characters are generally quirky and some of the supporting characters are off their rockers, which makes for some great reading. So definitely check the first book out and see if you like it.
Also, if she ever tours near you to promote a book, try to go. She always tells great stories.
