Why do many popular shows make fun of Ayn Rand and Atlas Shrugged?
I read this book and thought it was amazing but I see shows like Futurama and South Park make fun of it and don’t get it? Anyone know why?
Ayn Rand has -arguably- a limited, idealized and romanticized perspective on the individual and on society. That in itself brings out the comedians.
If you add to it that she is only read by people of a certain level of education, it is also a way of poking fun at intellectuals, which began soon after the first caveman quoted something he read on a cavewall. Society loves to poke fun of the self righteous intellectual.
So, it is not her writings themselves that invite the ridicule, as much as an adolescent perspective and her more rigid acolytes. With that as a focus, you can see the ample room for humor.
